B&B & more

Everything you need for a relaxed stay in the heart of the Lake District.

If you like the freedom of self-catering but don’t want to be tied to a week-long stay then experience the difference at Stanley House where you’ll find B&B but better.

We offer a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and a B&B experience with a bit more freedom.  We’ll be here to welcome you, and then you can come and go as you please with your own room and front door keys.

And you’re not confined to your room at Stanley House, which has plenty of space both indoors and out.  We have two spacious sitting rooms, perfect to kick back in after a tiring day on the fells. Help yourself to a coffee, and relax in front of the fire. Or, for those wet or lazier days, just lounge around, play on the Playstation, watch a DVD or just read the paper. Take full use of the free wifi or snuggle up by the wood burner and read your favourite book.  See our house layout for full details about the space at Stanley House.

While we’ll prepare you a fantastic breakfast every morning (cooked or something a little lighter if you prefer – see our breakfast menu) you are then welcome to make your own snacks and meals throughout the day with full access to our open plan kitchen and dining room.  Our well-stocked Open Larder has all the ‘basic essentials’ you’ll need – ideal for a late night snack or mid-afternoon munchies. Treat the place as your own, but leave the housework to us!

If you prefer to avoid any cooking, Stanley House is within easy walking distance of some fine Inns in Boot and Eskdale Green.  Our own sister property, the Woolpack Inn, is nearby at the foot of Hardknott Pass and serves food all day.

Stanley House has beautiful lawns and gardens which run down to the banks of the confluence of the River Esk and Whillan Beck. Surrounded by magnificent views and quite sheltered, our gardens are lovely for a picnic in the sun, afternoon games or an evening potter.

For our more intrepid guests, there’s a drying room for your wet outdoor gear, and a boot rack.  Our Map Wall will inspire you to tackle the surrounding fells of Scafell, Great Gable and Pillar to name but a few.

Private parking is available for at least 12 cars.
