How to find us

From the South

Proceed North on the M6 motorway, leaving at Junction 36.

Turn Left at the top of the slip road onto the A590 dual carriageway, and stay on this road for 3 miles, before turning Left onto a slip road signed A590 Barrow.

Turn Left at the roundabout at the bottom of the slip road onto the A590. After 6 miles of mostly Dual Carriageway (beware of the speed camera), you will approach a roundabout which you need to turn right at (signed A590 Barrow and Newby Bridge).

Proceed along this road for approximately 11 miles before coming to a right hand turn (at a place called Greenodd) signed A5092 (A595) Workington and Whitehaven. Carry on along this road for approximately 11.5 miles until you reach the Duddon Bridge with (permanent) Traffic Lights – turn right signed Ulpha and Seathwaite.

At this point the roads get (a lot) narrower! 3.7 miles later turn left (signed Eskdale and Whitehaven) just 300yds after a mini Post Office. Up the “short, sharp, shock” hill and over the hills for 6.5 miles. When you reach the King George IV pub, turn right – signed Boot and Eskdale.

Follow the road for approximately two and a half miles and you will see Stanley House on your right, park up and lift the red handset in the porch, someone will be down to hand over they keys. Unless you know the roads around here very well, we would recommend that you do not come via Ambleside and Hardknott & Wrynose Passes.

These are some of England’s most outrageous roads, but SatNavs do not understand this!

From the North

Leave (or pass over) the M6 motorway at Junction 40.

Take the A66 signed Cockermouth and follow this road for 29.4 miles until you reach Cockermouth (you will have gone “straight on” at 2 roundabouts). When you reach the roundabout at Cockermouth, take the first exit signed A5086 Egremont.

Proceed along this road for 14.8 miles until you reach a roundabout at Egremont. Take the first exit – signed A595 Barrow – and proceed along this road for 10.5 miles (having gone “straight on” at the next 3 roundabouts). Just after the petrol station on your right (last petrol before us), turn left signed Santon Bridge and Eskdale Green.

At this point the road gets (a lot) narrower! Proceed along this road for 1.6 miles, and turn right (signed Eskdale Green) on to an even narrower road. At the end of this road (1.8 miles), turn right and pass through Eskdale Green, then turn left at the King George IV pub sign post Boot and Eskdale.
