Both routes from Junction 36 on the M6Scenic route ( for those with a stomach for heights.)Following signs on the A590 / A591 to Windermere and then onto Ambleside. From Ambleside follow signs to Skelwith Bridge, onto Little Langdale and over both Wrynose and Hardknott passes into the valley of Eskdale. Stay on the narrow lane till you pass the village of Boot and the La’Ratty mini railway, continue on for approx 1/3 of a mile Stanley Ghyll is on your left hand side. (Travel time approx 1hr 30 min) The alternate route.Stay on the A590 for approx 3 miles, take the first slip road sign posted A590 Barrow In-Furness. Continue on the A590 for 10 miles following sign towards Newby Bridge. Travel a further 4 miles on the A590 till you come to the A5092, Greenodd. Turn right and follow signs towards Whitehaven /Broughton-in –Furness. 1 mile after Brought turn right immediately before the bridge with the traffic lights and follow signs to Ulpha - 3 miles. Pass through Ulpha and the post office continue on for 300 yards and turn left up a steep hill sign posted Wasdale / Eskdale. Continue up and over open country for 6 miles till you come to the King George Pub on your left. Turn right @ the pub and follow signs for Boot. Travel 1 mile, Stanley Ghyll House B&B is on your right hand side. (Travel time approx 1hr 15 min.) |
